Foxes Set For Westerby Cup Winners’ Cup

A Leicester City XI will take on Blaby & Whetstone Athletic on Monday 8 September as the two teams compete for the Westerby Cup Winners’ Cup at Holmes Park (7.30pm KO).
This season’s Westerby Cup Winners’ Cup has added significance, with the clash between the Foxes and Blaby & Whetstone kick-starting the 25th anniversary celebration of the Westerby Challenge Cup; the Leicestershire & Rutland County FA’s oldest and most prestigious cup competition.

Blaby & Whetstone emerged 2-0 winners over Quorn Football Club in last season’s Westerby Challenge Cup Final at King Power Stadium, thanks to strikes from Aaron Preston and Mason Hirst.

The victory resulted in Blaby & Whetstone Athletic lifting the Westerby Challenge Cup for the first time in the club’s history.

Leicester City manager, Nigel Pearson, said: “Grassroots football is the lifeblood of the game in this country and we’re very proud to represent the thousands of footballers that play the game under the governance of the Leicestershire & Rutland County FA.

“Games like the Westerby Cup Winners’ Cup give us the opportunity to acknowledge the support of our footballing community and I’m sure the game against Blaby & Whetstone Athletic will be a competitive experience for some of our young players.”

Tickets for the Westerby Cup Winners’ Cup Final will be available on the night at Holmes Park, priced at just £5 for adults and £2 for concessions.

Further details will be published at .
