Pearson: Ruthless In Both Boxes

Leicester City manager Nigel Pearson admits his side must be clinical at both ends of the pitch ahead of Arsenal’s visit to King Power Stadium on Sunday afternoon.

Having created several goal scoring opportunities in their recent Barclays Premier League fixture against Chelsea, the Foxes left Stamford Bridge with nothing to show after a 2-0 defeat to Jose Mourinho’s men.
The City boss hailed his players’ performance in the loss, with his defenders repelling wave after wave of attack from the former European champions.
And with Arsène Wenger’s side next up on the calendar, Pearson insisted his team must perform in all aspects on the field if they’re to start adding to their points total.
Pearson said: “We need to start picking points up so our focus is now getting the team prepared.
“Our philosophy in terms of dealing with all of our opponents is to try and find the way for us to play to our strengths.
“It’s about us trying to exploit any potential weaknesses that they have and they’ll be doing exactly the same thing.
“We saw with our game last week at Chelsea that is very difficult to do. Although we had a very positive team performance and created chances.
“It was a very encouraging performance from our players but of course the pivotal moment in games in the Premier League is you find out you have to be pretty ruthless in both penalty boxes and we’ll have to do that to beat sides of the quality we’re coming up against.
“Whether that’ll be the top sides or any other side in the Premier League, they’re all good sides.”
Pearson knows his squad are capable of scoring having gone through pre-season unbeaten, seeing off top flight teams including Bundesliga outfit Werder Bremen and fellow Premier League rivals Everton, netting 17 times in the process.
The City manager wants his side to continue creating those chances but doesn’t want them to lose focus when it comes to defensive situations.
He continued: “We’ve created chances throughout pre-season and in the opening two games of our Premier League season I think we’ve created a number of good goal scoring opportunities.
“It’s important for us, especially when we play at home, that we remain positive – that is our aim this season, we don’t want to be naïve, we don’t want to be ‘gung ho’. It’s important that we understand that’s the best way to beat any potential opponent.”
