King's Tribute To Supporters

Leicester City’s long serving midfielder Andy King has paid tribute to the Blue Army after he celebrated his 26th birthday with a new four-year contract on Wednesday.
The Academy graduate and now the Club’s all-time record top scoring midfielder crowned a remarkable journey with the Club when he made his Barclays Premier League debut at the start of this season, and is the only remaining player to have featured in both Nigel Pearson’s League 1 and Championship winning sides.

Now the Wales international is keen to repay the support of Leicester City fans by giving them some more happy memories in the top-flight, and he wants to start on Saturday against West Bromwich Albion.

“I’ve always said from when I made my debut against Wolves in 2007 that the fans have been nothing but brilliant with me,” King told Foxes Player. “I’d like to think that I’ve repaid them with some good memories and good performances on the pitch – and two promotions.

“Their support has been better than ever this season, they’ve been turning out in numbers and sold out every game. I’m sure that will continue to be the case. I’d just like to say a big thank you to them. They’ve supported me throughout my whole career with Leicester so far and I hope that they continue to do so.

“I’ve only ever played for Leicester City and it’s looking more and more like they’re the only team I’ll ever play for. I would love it if that is the case. Ultimately it’s about focusing, keeping the team in the Premier League and that starts on Saturday by picking up some results again.”

The new deal will keep King at King Power Stadium until 2018, and being only one of two players, along with Paul Dickov, to have played in the top three tiers of English football with City, he appreciates how well the Club is doing under the current owners.

“We’ve come from League 1 to the Championship and now to the Premier League, and everything around the Club and the facilities are going in the right direction.

“We’re so fortunate with the owners and the backing they’ve given us. They’ve been magnificent since they walked in the door with the money they’ve invested in the stadium and the training ground, and it’s only going to help the Club push forward and establish ourselves in this league.

“This group is the best I’ve been in. We won the Championship with ease last year. It wasn’t the case when we were in it, but you look back now and we got over 100 points to be promoted.

“That was a real outstanding season and then this year we’ve added real quality with the players that we’ve been able to attract. If we can stay in the league this year and kick on then we can go down as one of the best groups of players that this Club has had.”
