Denmark Debut Awaits Kasper

Kasper Schmeichel is in line to win his first full cap for Denmark next week, as one of three Leicester City players reporting for international duty.

Head Coach Morten Olsen has confirmed that the Foxes goalkeeper, 26, will be handed his senior international debut in next Wednesday's friendly against Macedonia in Skopje.

Schmeichel's breakthrough follows a string of consistent performances in the 18 months since he joined City from Leeds United - displays Olsen says have forced the former Manchester City stopper into the international reckoning.

City's Player of the Year last season, Schmeichel was named in the Denmark squad for last summer's Euro 2012 finals and will now be given his big chance on the international stage.

"We have had Kasper in the squad before and he was also the third goalkeeper at the European Championship finals last summer,” said Olsen.

“He has developed since then. Now he gets the chance.

“We are lucky to have quite a lot of good Danish keepers at this time and Kasper Schmeichel is playing every week for Leicester in the second best - but still very strong - English league.

“And he has made a very good impression whenever we have had him in the Denmark squad. That's why we've decided to give him his debut against Macedonia.”

Midfielder Andy King and defender Sean St. Ledger complete City's international contingent next Wednesday night.

King has been named in Chris Coleman's Wales squad for their friendly against Austria in Swansea, while St. Ledger reports with the Republic of Ireland for their friendly against Poland in Dublin.
