King A Valuable Asset For Pearson

The news that long-serving Leicester City midfielder Andy King signed a new four-year deal with the Club on Wednesday certainly brought a positive vibe to an already upbeat Blue Army.

While City supporters celebrated the news, manager Nigel Pearson admitted he was equally as happy to see the Wales international commit his future to the Foxes until 2018, and spoke highly of the No.10.
The Academy graduate, who made his first team debut against Wolves in 2007, has now notched up 283 appearances for City, scoring 54 goals in the process, making him the Club’s all-time top-scoring midfielder.
After making his first appearance in the Barclays Premier League season-opener against Everton, King has now played seven times in a blue shirt this campaign, having also represented his country on three separate occasions.
“I’m very pleased to get his situation sorted out,” said the Leicester boss. “I’ve been very keen to get Andy’s contract situation sorted out for a while and now that that’s been done, we can concentrate on the football.
“It’s probably been a bit frustrating for Andy as he has not played as much as he would have liked but he’s a very valuable member of our squad. His personal development over a number of years has been significant.
“It’s always good to get your younger players to continue their run of form at the Club. He stays in contention as he has done throughout his time here.”
With King admitting he’s happy to stay at City for the entirety of his career, Pearson acknowledged that it would be an incredible achievement if the midfielder were to do so.
He added: “I think [one club men are fewer] now. I don’t know if that will continue to be the trend. It just seems to be that that is the case. Kingy is an ambitious player who has done very well for us and I’m pleased to have him.
“I played for quite a lot of time and only had three clubs but players who stay at one club for their careers is pretty rare anyway.”
