Winger Marc Albrighton is hoping Leicester City can use the confidence gained in their opening day Barclays Premier League victory to kick on again next weekend.

The former Aston Villa man set up two goals and scored one during City’s 4-2 victory over Sunderland at King Power Stadium – a result that sent them to the top of the league until Manchester City’s win on Monday.

For both Leicester City and Albrighton, the result and performance were continuations of a sensational finish to last season, and with such a bright opener, he sees no reason why they can’t continue.

“It’s a great start,” Albrighton told Foxes Player HD. “It’s always great to get off to the best possible start in a Premier League season. We did that, set the tempo early on and continued that throughout the first half and even through parts of the second half too.

“It’s fantastic when the atmosphere is rocking and everyone is pulling together in the same direction. It’s a great feeling. We’re going to go through good and bad times this season – every side does – but if we can continue the support that goes with today’s performance, then we’ll do well by sticking together.

“I’ve got nothing to complain about at the minute. I’m playing, enjoying it and we’re off to a great start. If we build on this then confidence will be high throughout the squad. Everyone will be high on confidence and we’ll push on.”

For most of pre-season Albrighton has been employed as a wing-back by manager Claudio Ranieri, but against the Black Cats he flourished on the wing.

However for a player that endured difficult spells at times last term, playing regular football is the main goal.

Albrighton added: “I’m happy to just be playing at the minute. Everyone knows that the last year was a difficult time and it’s just great to be out on the field enjoying and winning football games.

“It was very special [to score]. It’s always nice to score a goal but that one felt good and it was one that I’ll remember.

“It was high tempo and very hot out there. For your first game back in that heat it was difficult. But we coped well, got off to a good start and continued that throughout the 90 minutes. Credit to the team and credit to everyone involved.”
