Three points, two assists and one standing ovation from the Leicester City fans. It’s fair to say that Saturday afternoon was a good one for wing wizard Marc Albrighton.

With the Foxes 1-0 down to West Bromwich Albion at half-time, the former Aston Villa man checked in from the left flank and delivered a perfectly weighted ball for Riyad Mahrez to convert at the far post.

Fewer than 10 minutes later he did the same from the other flank for another Mahrez strike – a credit to his versatility, ability and understanding.

Jamie Vardy then added a third as the Foxes recorded a 3-2 win to move them up to the lofty heights of third place.

It marked another resilient defensive display and irresistible attacking show from the Foxes, but the almost telepathic understanding between Mahrez and Albrighton is no accident.

“That’s something that we do in training a lot - switching play quickly and getting balls into the box,” he told Foxes Player HD. “It’s turned out nice and we’ve got a couple of goals from it.

“We went in 1-0 at half-time but I think everyone that watched the game can see that we didn’t deserve to be going in losing at the break. Credit to us we kept going and kept carving out chances and managed to put some away.

“I spoke to the other lads and they were the same – we felt comfortable. Even at 1-0 down we felt there was every chance that we were going to get back into the game if we kept doing what we were doing and sooner or later something would give.”

Since his impressive return to the Leicester City side late last season, Albrighton’s performances have been crucial from a number of positions.

From right wing-back to right midfield and left midfield, the 25-year-old has underlined his importance time and time again.

He added: “Obviously the more positions that you can play in and do a good job in then the better really. It always gives you that extra opportunity to play so that’s something I’ve worked on throughout my career and I’ve had to play in different positions at times but I feel like it’s helped me.

“Riyad is the same. We’re happy to play on either wing and there are pros and cons to playing on either side. Obviously being on the left gives me the option to cut inside and have a shot sometimes, or cross like I did for the goal.”
