Beaglehole: I’m Very Proud

Development Squad manager Steve Beaglehole credit his players and staff following his side’s 1-1 Barclays U21 Premier League draw with Manchester United at King Power Stadium on Monday.

Harry Panayiotou opened the scoring, taking his tally to nine goals in his last nine games in all competitions, before Sean Goss levelled for the visitors shortly after.
The opposition fielded a strong team, with first-teamers Robin van Persie, Rafael, Jonny Evans, Tyler Blackett and Adnan Januzaj all in action.
But Beaglehole’s side were unfazed by the Red Devils, and came close to winning the game late on through Panayiotou.
“I’m very proud of the players and the staff that work so hard behind the team,” Beaglehole told Foxes Player. “I thought it was a terrific game.
“Hopefully the people that came to watch have seen what a good group of players we’ve got underneath the first team.
“It could have gone either way in the second half. In the first 20 minutes we started really well. It was a brilliant goal from Harry – he’s on fire at the moment with the goals he’s scoring.
“They came back into it and scored, making it 1-1 at half-time. I’d say over 90 minutes it was a fair result. Neither side deserved to lose.
“There was some great counter-attacking football from both teams. There was a lot of exciting forward play and some solid defending.
“Adam Smith, again, made two brilliant saves. One in the first half and one at the end. It was an excellent exhibition.”
Beaglehole’s side next face an U21 Premier League trip to Liverpool on Monday 4 May – an outfit the Foxes know well having beaten them 3-1 at King Power Stadium last week.
“It’s been a tough week,” the Under-21s boss added. “We played Liverpool last Monday, then 90 minutes plus extra-time on Thursday against Everton and then we came up against a side in Manchester United, who have the fittest players out there. They’re natural athletes.
“Next up we’ve got Liverpool, who are a big club. They’ll have a mixture of some of the best players in the country, and also in Europe.
“Week in, week out, we battle and we’re underdogs, but the underdogs can perform if they’ve got the right attitude.”
