Beaglehole: It’s A Cruel Game

Leicester City Development Squad manager Steve Beaglehole hopes his side can return to winning ways after losing 2-1 to Leeds in the U21 Premier League Cup on Tuesday.

The young Foxes, who had won four on the spin in all competitions going into the clash, took the lead on the hour mark to give Leicester the lead at Nuneaton Town's James Parnell Stadium.
But Luke Parkin scored nine minutes later and made it 2-1 with just two minutes to play, claiming victory at the death for the Yorkshire club.
“It’s a cruel game,” Beaglehole told Foxes Player after the loss. “You think you’re there and then suddenly you get a kicking. We’ve had the elation of the last few games and now we’ve felt the disappointment because we’ve not played well.
“I thought it was a difficult game which we anticipated. In the last four games we’ve been the underdogs and we perform better when we are – it’s a different sort of pressure.
“We knew they’d come and be aggressive and close us down and put pressure on us. We didn’t handle it well tonight. It was difficult conditions but it was difficult conditions for both teams.
“Having gone one goal up we need to manage the game, keep a clean sheet and we’re through. You don’t always play well when you win but tonight we didn’t play well and we’ve lost.
“It was tough to take but I never felt comfortable. They always looked a threat and they fully deserved it on the night. They adapted to the conditions better.”
Already looking forward to Monday night’s league clash with Southampton, again at the James Parnell Stadium, Beaglehole believes his side must put Tuesday’s result behind them and kick on with their Barclays U21 Premier League campaign.
He added: “The three goals for me for the season were staying in the top league having worked hard to get there, getting into the next stage of the European competition which we’ve done, and this was a competition I felt we could have a run in and possibly win it.
“That third goal has gone, so we’ve got to bounce back on Monday night against Southampton, who’ll be a good side with good young players. We’ve got to show a better attitude and we have to show that we’ve got that winning mentality again.”
