Bittersweet Full Debut For Simpson

Leicester City right-back Danny Simpson admits he was delighted to make his first start in a blue shirt on Sunday but wants his side to put the defeat swiftly behind them.

The Foxes, despite taking an early lead through Leonardo Ulloa – the Argentine’s sixth goal of the season – lost 2-1 to Aston Villa in the Barclays Premier League after goals from Ciaran Clark and Alan Hutton.
Stepping in for the ill Ritchie De Laet, Simpson put in a solid performance, completing 90 minutes and halting much of the threat down the left flank from the lively Aly Cissokho.
“When the gaffer told me I was starting I was buzzing,” said Simpson. “It’s been a long week. Considering I’ve not played at all really this season I felt pretty good out there.
“I’ll always give my best for the team and come and try to do a job, and see what happens from there. The fitness guys have been managing me well. At times I’ve been frustrated on the training ground which is normal if any player isn’t playing.
“I’ve been doing extra running and I’ve played a few reserve games to keep me ticking over but nothing ever compares to proper match fitness in the Premier League.
“Sometimes you’re running off adrenaline as well because I was buzzing to be playing. It’s a squad game and when you come in you can’t have any excuses – you’ve got to try and do your best.”
Simpson also credited the unity and hard-working mentality of the squad and is already relishing the visit of current Premier League champions Manchester City to King Power Stadium on Saturday.
He added: “The togetherness is there. I don’t think anyone can question that. Like the manager has said, you move onto the next one. We actually don’t dwell on it. We get into training and we kick on.
“We’re working hard in training and we’re preparing for the next one. We’re not dwelling on form or what happened in the last game – it’s the next game that’s important.”
