Leicester City captain Wes Morgan praised his side’s fighting spirit following their Barclays Premier League draw at Bournemouth on Saturday.

The Foxes drew 1-1 at Vitality Stadium as England international Jamie Vardy dispatched a penalty with four minutes to play to cancel out Callum Wilson’s acrobatic effort.

The game saw City extend their unbeaten run to five games in all competitions this season, meaning they head into the international break occupying third position in the league.

“I’m very pleased,” Morgan said after the clash. “It was a very tough game. You can’t underestimate Bournemouth. They’re a very good, well organised team. They had a game plan and it worked for the first half.

“We were disappointed to go in at half-time 1-0 down, so it shows the boys’ character to come out in the second half and eventually get the goal and the draw.

“It was quite difficult. They are a very good team. They’ll do very well this season, but credit to us for digging in. They’re one of the best sides we’ve played, but we showed the desire to get the point.”

Morgan went on to speak highly of Vardy, who played a major role up front on his own against the Cherries.

While the Fleetwood Town man scored a deserved goal from the penalty spot, Morgan also explained the importance of having Vardy’s pace in the team.

The City skipper added: “Vards (Jamie Vardy) is a great outlet. He causes defenders problems every game he plays in.

“Sometimes when we’re under the cosh we know we can just spin it down the side and Vards will be onto it chasing it and trying to make something happen. To have that in our armoury is fantastic so I’m glad he got his goal [against Bournemouth].”
