Leicester City manager Claudio Ranieri confirmed that neither Jamie Vardy nor Danny Simpson suffered significant injuries during Saturday’s 2-1 win at Norwich City.
Full back Simpson was replaced 65 minutes into his first Premier League start since March, suffering with cramp, while top scorer Vardy required lengthy treatment late in the game after taking a knock to his knee.
While the forthcoming international break offers Simpson an opportunity to recover, Vardy is due to join up with the England squad for their remaining European Championship qualifiers.
But Ranieri insisted neither player would be significantly troubled by the ailments sustained at Carrow Road.
“No, nothing serious. I think both are ok,” Ranieri said when asked about the condition of the pair.
“When I saw Vardy on the ground I thought it was a bad injury because Jamie never stays down.
“When he came close to our bench, the physio said it was his knee, but he was stable and he continued to play.”
The news will come as a relief to England manager Roy Hodgson, who will have the Barclays Premier League’s leading scorer at his disposal next week.
Vardy’s first-half penalty in Saturday’s win took his tally for the campaign to seven, but Ranieri is pleased with more than just his goals.
“He’s in a great moment,” he said. “Strikers live for these moments because everything he does is gold.
“But it’s not just his goals that are important, it’s his pressing with Shinji (Okazaki).
“This kind of pressing recharges their team mates behind them and that’s important.”
