Clean Sheet For Schmeichel’s Denmark

- The goalkeeper makes a brilliant one-on-one save in stoppage time to keep the scores level 

- Denmark miss the chance to replace Portugal at the top of Group I 

- They remain second in Euro 2016 Qualifying Group I, level on points with Albania

Goalkeeper Kasper Schmeichel kept a brilliant clean sheet for Denmark on Friday night as they were held to a 0-0 draw by a resolute Albania side in Copenhagen. 

With both teams level on points in the Group I Euro 2016 qualification stakes, a victory for either side would have moved them to the summit due to leaders Portugal not having a fixture. 

The majority of the chances throughout the match fell for the Danes, but they found Schmeichel’s opposite number, Etrit Berisha, equally difficult to beat as they pushed for a winner. 

City’s stopper was called into action though and responded with some excellent saves. In the first half Sokol Çikalleshi's header saw him react well to tip over the bar but the most important moment came in second half stoppage time. Odise Roshi had broken clear against the run of play but Schmeichel made a crucial one-on-one save to deny Albania a cruel winning goal. 

The result leaves Denmark level on 11 points with Albania in second place, although the Danes have played one game more. Portugal remain out in front with 12 points. 

Next up for the Danes is a trip to bottom placed Armenia, while Albania play host to Portugal. Both games take place on Monday night.
