LCFC Community Trust Futsal students and the International Academy faced each other at De Montfort University’s QEII Leisure Centre on Tuesday, providing a rare footballing experience for both sides.

While the International Academy were given the chance to adapt their game to a five-a-side format, the Community Trust’s Futsal students pitted themselves against some of the LCFCIA’s most talented players.

The fixture was part of a regular games programme that the students participate in, alongside gaining a BTEC Level 3 Diploma in Sport.

Leicester City Football Club In The Community Assistant Adam Martin said: “We played two games of futsal against the International Academy, with a mixed game between both sides at the end.

“It proved to be a really good test for them. They were a little apprehensive at first because the International Academy have some great players, but they acquitted themselves really well.

“We like to make the course as enjoyable as possible and a game like this really does help their social skills, playing against and alongside players that they haven’t before – it was a great end to the session.

“Futsal really allows them to enjoy their education given the rare opportunity of being able to represent a professional football club like Leicester City. The lads really enjoy being in the environment of a football club – they get opportunities that they might not get elsewhere.

“A lot of our former students have gone on to work across the country, while others working within our community scheme, so there’s plenty of progression routes on offer.”

The Community Trust’s two-year Futsal Scholarship allows current Year 11s and 12s to play the beautiful game while also gaining a BTEC Level 3 Diploma in Sport, equivalent to three A-Levels.

You can gain an FA coaching qualification while competing in 11-a-side fixtures against professional clubs, with coaching delivered by Academy coaches.

For more information on the LCFC Community Trust’s Futsal Scholarship, come down to the next open evening on Thursday 10 March at Leicester College’s Abbey Park campus between 4pm and 8pm, focusing on new intakes for September 2016.
