After shining in Leicester City’s previous two matches against Norwich City and Southampton, defender Danny Simpson says he’s just happy to be back doing a job for the team.

An unprecedented level of competition within the squad had seen opportunities limited for the former Newcastle United and Queens Park Rangers man early in the season, but after waiting patiently he delivered two highly impressive displays on the road. Simpson’s performances helped City overcome Norwich City 2-1 before a 2-2 draw with Southampton.

Both of those results came away from home and while he admits it takes time to get that match sharpness back, it was the support of the team that helped make the return go so smoothly.

He told : “You come into a team and you want to play well yourself but it’s really nice to be a part of a team that are winning. I came out of the Norwich game and it’s just like ‘yes we won’.

“I think we’ve got a great squad, they’re top lads and anyone that comes into the team, you know the lads will help each other and believe in each other. For me that made it straightforward coming in so hopefully I can carry on helping the team.”

The Norwich result was of particular significance for the Foxes as it came after their first loss of the season to Arsenal and before the team broke up for the international break.

It helped them to keep their momentum, and having survived those two tough away games, the team now tackle high-flying Crystal Palace at King Power Stadium on Saturday afternoon.

Simpson reflected: “We were on a great run and we lost to Arsenal. We could have gone 2-0 up and won but we didn’t, then to go to Norwich away and got a win in the way we did and personally for me to get back into the team [was great].

“I’m just trying to be solid and get my match fitness up. You can train as much as you want but you need those games. Personally for me I’m delighted to be involved and back involved in a winning team and then with the one that drew last week. Hopefully we can all keep working hard and I can carry on doing my part for the team.”
