Defeat Not Deserved For Davis

Development Squad defender Joe Davis says his side deserved more from the game following their 2-1 Barclays U21 Premier League defeat to Liverpool.
Davis nodded the Foxes into a deserved lead six minutes before the break, and City could have doubled their lead three minutes after the restart when Harry Panayiotou broke through.

But the St. Kitts and Nevis international, who had scored 11 goals in his last 10 games heading into the tie, saw his shot blocked deep in the penalty area.

Liverpool then upped their game, and an inspired second half performance saw them draw level through Dan Cleary, before captain Cameron Brannagan fired in from the edge of the box to win the game for the Merseyside outfit.

“We settled into the game well,” Davis told Foxes Player. “We coped with everything that they threw at us and we looked solid. That was the main thing. We were the better side in the first half, and I think everyone could see that.

“We came out in the second half with a game plan which we didn’t really stick to. We didn’t really look as solid. They got in behind us a few times, but we did have chances to get something out of the game, so we’ll go away disappointed.

“It’s disappointing not to come away with anything. I think we deserved something out of the game, but that’s football.”

Davis’ goal proved to be his first of the season, but explained that it would have felt a lot sweeter had it produced a positive result.

The centre-back added: “I’ve been close to scoring in the last few games and I should have probably scored already this season.

“It’s nice to get off the mark, but it would have been a lot better if we got something out of the game. It’s just unfortunate that my goal didn’t really mean anything.”
