Defensive Solidarity Pleases Pearson

It was City’s second shutout of the campaign and helped them secure a crucial home point – one that the team will undoubtedly be keen to build on at the weekend against Queens Park Rangers. 

Many saw last season’s victory over a then table-topping QPR side as the catalyst for City’s irresistible run of form that eventually saw them clinch the league title last season, and another solid defensive display on Saturday will be crucial. 

Speaking to Foxes Player, Pearson said: “Statistically over the season you’ve got to keep enough of them (clean sheets), it’s as simple as that. 

“On a day like today [against Sunderland], when things didn’t go our way at the other end, it makes it even more important. 

“Results of late have been similar. Okay in the Southampton game we didn’t create much, but in other games we’ve made opportunities and not taken them. What we’ve not been able to do is keep our opponents out at the other end. 

“It’s about combining the two and we’re always working towards that. But I think again we looked dangerous, we created some good chances and their ‘keeper made some good saves. We move onto the next game. 

“The result is not what we wanted, but as I said before I’m relatively satisfied with how the players went about trying to win the game. If we do that more regularly, we’ll win more games than we have done.”
