After scoring a hat-trick on his first team debut for the Club, forward Joe Dodoo expressed his appreciation for being given the opportunity to play for Leicester City.

Dodoo, 19, had a night to remember against Bury on Tuesday evening as he netted a treble in his first professional appearance in a Foxes shirt.

Manager Claudio Ranieri opted to hand the Academy product at start in his side’s Capital One Cup Second Round tie at Gigg Lane, and it certainly paid off.

The tricky wideman, who also scored a hat-trick in front of Ranieri for the Development Squad in pre-season against Loughborough Dynamo, first hammered in a sublime volley off the bar to give City an early lead against the Shakers.

Andrej Kramarić added a second to make it 2-0 to the Foxes at the break, before Bury pulled one back five minutes into the second period through Danny Mayor.

Then, Dodoo scored twice in the final four minutes of the game to seal his hat-trick, wheeling away in ecstatic celebration in front of the 1,300-strong travelling Blue Army.

“I’m still in shock to be honest,” Dodoo told Foxes Player HD. “It’s just an amazing feeling. Nothing in the world can beat it right now. I would never have thought this would happen.

“I have to thank the manager and players for helping me through the game. The manager gave me an opportunity, so I can’t really forget about that.”

Dodoo’s third goal came as a result of some instinctive play from Academy graduate Jeff Schlupp, who raced in to pinch the ball of goalkeeper Christian Walton before teeing up Dodoo.

It was a classy touch from the Ghana international, who also scored a treble on his debut in the same competition four years ago.

Reflecting on the moment he received the pass from Schlupp, Dodoo added: “I didn’t expect to get it from Jeff to be fair, because I thought he was going to score by himself, but I’m very thankful to Jeff for passing to me.

“When the ball came, I knew I had to just shoot as quickly as possible because I was getting closed down. It went in, and it was just the best feeling ever.

“To be fair to Jeff he’s very happy for me. He’s been very supportive. He told me at half-time to go for another one and then go for the hat-trick and I was very happy to do that.”
