Drinkwater Already Learning From Ranieri

- Leicester City squad benefiting from experienced Italian manager 

- City midfielder trying to learn as much from Foxes boss as possible 

The experience of working alongside manager Claudio Ranieri is something that all of the Leicester City squad can benefit from, according to midfielder Danny Drinkwater. 

Ranieri’s roots within the game run all the way back to 1973, when the Italian signed his first professional contract as a defender at Roma. 

The 63-year-old went on to play for Catanzaro, Catania and Palermo before beginning his managerial career at Lametini in 1987. 

Spells at the likes of Atletico Madrid, Chelsea, Juventus, Roma and Internazionale followed, giving Ranieri a wealth of managerial experience across the continent. 

For Drinkwater and his team-mates, that can only have a positive effect on their day-to-day work under Ranieri’s stewardship. 

City’s No.4 told Foxes Player HD: “He came in and made it quite clear straight away, which helped the boys get a feel for what the manager is like. It’s working well. It’s still early days, but it’s looking good. 

“I’m enjoying it and I think the lads are to be honest. It’s something that I’m getting along well with and I’m trying to learn as much as I can when I can.” 

Drinkwater played 45 minutes in the 3-1 pre-season friendly win over Lincoln City last week before playing the last 30 minutes in the 1-1 draw with Mansfield Town on Saturday as Ranieri continues to give all of his players a run out ahead of the new season. 

“When Claudio talks you can’t help but listen,” Drinkwater added. “His experience and history in the game are things you do try and learn from.”
