While the stars of Leicester City’s squad continue to shine, Danny Drinkwater feels like there’s one star that’s could soon be shining brighter than most.

With just 11 Barclays Premier League appearances to his name, summer signing N’Golo Kanté has quickly become a fan favourite thanks to his energetic displays in midfield and uncanny knack for intercepting the ball.

Perhaps more encouraging for Foxes fans is the blossoming partnership between the new man and Drinkwater, who admits to having been hugely impressed with how the Frenchman has settled both on and off the pitch.

The two could again link up on Saturday afternoon when the Foxes welcome newly-promoted Watford to King Power Stadium, and for Drinkwater, the understanding between the two continues to grow.

“He’s a good player,” Drinkwater told Foxes Player HD of Kanté. “He runs his socks off for the lads and he’s a pleasure to play with in there. He’s got a great engine as well.

“The lads will agree with me that his interceptions help us on the counter attack lots. If he can stay fit and keep playing the way that he is then that's perfect.

“It’s just how he keeps running about and seems to win the ball wherever he goes. It does help us massively on the counter attack when he does win it back so fair play to him. Hopefully he can keep going and we can keep winning points.

“He knows the game and he knows now how the Club play. He’s shining.”

Kanté joined the Foxes in the summer from French outfit Caen and after making his debut as a substitute on the opening weekend against Sunderland, quickly gave the Blue Army a glimpse of his massive potential.

With Drinkwater also firing on all cylinders as one of City’s many outstanding individual performers this season, the central midfield positions are among the most competitive on the pitch.

But with Kanté’s English improving by the day, there’s no reason for the partnership not to continue to flourish.

He added: “He’s a nice lad. He’s a proper down to earth fella. He was struggling a bit with the language at first but he’s getting there and hopefully he’ll take that onto the pitch by talking and giving orders out there. He’s a great lad.

“I don’t need to tell him much [on the pitch] to be honest because he always seems to be in the right place at the right time, so that’s quite helpful for me.

“In partnerships on the pitch you need to work in tandem. One goes and one sits and if one goes out wide, one stays in the centre."
