Exciting Period For Beaglehole

As the Development Squad prepare for a crucial Barclays U21 Premier League clash with fellow title hopefuls Liverpool, Steve Beaglehole says he has seen a definitive improvement in his side.
The Foxes have lost just once in their last 10 league games and could move within two points of table-topping Manchester United if they win their next fixture.

Leicester were narrowly beaten in extra-time in the Premier League International Cup Semi-Final with Manchester City on Thursday evening, and now head to Chester’s Swansway Stadium to face Liverpool on Monday (4.15pm kick-off).

“We’ve gathered some momentum and improved dramatically since the start of the season,” said Beaglehole. “Our players look more tactically aware.

“If you look back on our season so far, it’s been tremendous. We finished in the top six last year and we’ve got every chance of finishing at least as high this season if we emulate the form that we’re in in our remaining three league games. Our performances in the league have been very good.

“With just three games to go and to have a realistic chance of winning the league is great for the players. You don’t win the amount of games that they have done in the league and the cup without having good players – that says it all.

“We’ve got some great talent underneath the first team, which speaks very highly for the future of the Club.”

Beaglehole believes the visit to Liverpool will be one of the toughest fixtures of the 2014/15 campaign. Despite beating the Reds 3-1 in the league at King Power Stadium back in mid-April, the Under-21s boss knows that Monday’s fixture will be a different challenge.

“Liverpool are one of the best,” Beaglehole added. “They’re right up there and they’ve got a great chance in the league. They’re at home and they’ll want to reverse the scoreline that we beat them by in April. I’d say that was one of our strongest performances of the season.

“Liverpool need to win this game to give themselves a good chance of winning the league, so they’ll be going for it. They’re going to be a good team and they’re going to have good players. They have some of the best players not only in England, but in Europe also.”
