FA Youth Cup: Peake Applauds U18s’ Composure

Trevor Peake believes the composure of his side in their 2-1 win over Birmingham at King Power Stadium on Wednesday played a key role in their progression into the FA Youth Cup Semi-Finals.

The young Foxes trailed 1-0 at half-time thanks to George O’Neill’s 36th-minute strike, but Harvey Barnes initiated a second-half comeback just three minutes after the break with a smart finish to level the score up at 1-1.
An even period of play followed until a frantic last 10 minutes saw both sides hit the woodwork, before City defender with just two minutes to play to send his side into the last-four.
“We were 1-0 down but we didn’t panic,” Under-18s manager Peake told Foxes Player. “We just played our own sort of play, but tried to tweak things at half-time.
“The timing of our equaliser was very important because it gave us that belief that we could go on and win the game.
“I thought the crowd, and all the people here including the staff and first team players, showed everyone really does care about the younger lads. Hopefully it was encouraging for our lads to take on board.”
The result meant City’s current crop of Under-18s became only the second side in the Club’s history to make it into the semi-finals of the prestigious competition, with the last group of youngsters achieving that feat 28 years ago.
City will play either Manchester City or Crewe - who face each other on Monday evening in the sixth round - in the last-four of the FA Youth Cup over two legs for a place in the final.
You can hear more from Trevor, plus reaction from Director of Football Jon Rudkin and a number of young Foxes involved in the tie, on LCFC.com and Foxes Player in the coming days.
