FA Youth Cup: Peake Hoping For Big Crowd

Under-18s manager Trevor Peake wants the Blue Army to turn up to King Power Stadium in their thousands when his side take on Birmingham in the FA Youth Cup Sixth Round on Wednesday evening (7pm KO).

The young Foxes are hoping to become only the second ever City side to make it to the semi-finals of the prestigious competition, but first face Birmingham, who knocked out a much-fancied Liverpool outfit in the previous round.
Peake’s side have already played at the home of Leicester City's first team twice this campaign where they beat in the third round, and in round four, before dispatching at St. Mary's Stadium in the fifth round.
Now City fans have the chance to witness the Club’s current crop of talented youngsters make history on Wednesday evening, as Season Ticket Holders will be granted FREE admission!*
Peake told Foxes Player: “The lads are probably only used to playing in front of their parents, so hopefully we can get a few thousand in or maybe even more than that.
“It would be a great atmosphere for them to perform in. Hopefully they’ll get encouraged by that, and not get too nervous to play in front of people.
“There’s been some decent crowds at some of the other games, so it would be lovely to follow suit.”
Peake can look to his personal experiences of cup competitions as a player, where he won the FA Cup with Coventry City in 1987.
Aware of both outcomes of a cup game – the elation of victory and the disappointment of elimination – Peake insisted that complacency won’t be a problem for his side as they prepare for the battle with the Blues.
He continued: “The thing I usually take is the other side of experience where you lose games that you’re probably favourite to win. I’ve been on the end of a couple of horrific ones really with Coventry.
“We got knocked out early on to teams that really we should have done better against. On the day, we didn’t manage to get there, for one reason or another.
“I’m very cautious, but complacency shouldn’t be an issue in our dressing room on Wednesday evening.”
The young Foxes have earned the admiration of all that have watched them in action this season, including Academy graduates and , who have both voiced their support for the next generation of City stars.
Peake explained that his Under-18s will be delighted to have the recognition of two players that have risen through the ranks at Belvoir Drive, and have gone on to make their Premier League debuts for the Club this year.
Peake added: “It’s terrific. I can remember both Andy King and Jeff Schlupp when they were in the Academy. I’m old enough and I’ve been here long enough to have been around them when they’ve gone through the ranks.
“They’ve been great ambassadors for the Club. They’ve got to a good level now, so it’s great for them to look back to what would have probably been the highlight of their careers before they turned 19.”
