Under-18s manager Trevor Peake hopes his side can build on last season’s excellent FA Youth Cup run, starting against Cheltenham Town in the third round at King Power Stadium this evening (7pm KO).

The young Foxes host Cheltenham in their first FA Youth Cup involvement of the 2015/16 season with either Blackburn Rovers or Southend United the opponents in the fourth round.

For Peake, it is a special competition for all those involved and with a stunning run to the semi-final last season behind them, City are certainly looking forward to getting this season’s campaign underway.

“Obviously since the draw the lads have been talking about it,” Peake told Foxes Player HD. “It is a focus especially after last season’s success of getting to the semi-final.

“Myself and Matt Goodwin went down to Cheltenham’s game against Barnet, where they managed to get through.

“They (Cheltenham) work their socks off and they’ve got a couple of outstanding players, so we’re aware of that aspect as well.”

Not only does the prospect of playing in the FA Youth Cup build excitement among those involved, but the chance to play at King Power Stadium in front of their friends and family is equally as thrilling.

Peake added: “If you talk to any of the lads, they’ll tell you it’s a big highlight of the season. Just to play at King Power Stadium under the lights with a bit of a crowd is a real enticing thing for them at this age.

“We understand that this is the start of hopefully another run in the FA Youth Cup. It’s really encouraging for the lads to look around and have family and friends there, so as many fans as possible cheering the lads on will be great.”
