Leicester City’s Under-18s stormed into the fourth round of the FA Youth Cup with a convincing victory over Cheltenham Town at King Power Stadium on Wednesday evening.

Trevor Peake’s outfit were 3-0 up at the break thanks to Layton Ndukwu’s excellent double and a superb header from Admiral Muskwe.

The young Foxes were in fine form and started the second period with the same intent that had certainly paid dividends in the first half.

Muskwe was the man to net City’s fourth goal as he converted from distance, before England youth international Darnell Johnson rounded off the scoring with a header just before the hour mark, in turn setting up a fourth round clash at either Blackburn Rovers or Southend United.

The young Foxes had performed admirably in the Barclays U18 Premier League heading into the game and sat in fourth position after some positive results.

Meanwhile, Cheltenham provided tough opposition after they had beaten Barnet 3-1 in the second round of the FA Youth Cup to set up the tie at King Power Stadium.

It took just eight minutes for the young Foxes to open the scoring. Ndukwu, who had earlier curled just wide from the edge of the box, rounded off a fine move. Josh Eppiah burst forward with the ball and found Ndukwu, who cut inside past his marker before slotting in past Bojan Tetek.

Ndukwu turned provider shortly after. In-form striker Muskwe, who has so far this season excelled in the U18 Premier League, rose well to meet the England international’s cross before nodding in over Tetek on 22 minutes.

City had to do some defending of their own a minute later as Alex Dinsmore broke through, only for Max Bramley to make a fine save to deny Cheltenham’s striker, before Luke Thomas flashed an effort just wide shortly after.

But the young Foxes were ruthless upfront and made it 3-0 on 38 minutes as Ndukwu picked up the ball 25 yards from goal and drilled home with a fine low strike.

Leicester continued to press in the second period and their positivity upfront provided another goal as they made it 4-0 through Muskwe, who notched his second of the game after curling in from 20 yards.

It was captain Johnson’s turn to next find the back of the net as he nodded in a corner at the far post from a difficult angle to make it 5-0 on 57 minutes.

Substitute Elliott Webber then came close to netting just two minutes after coming onto the field, but the wideman saw his low half volley saved by Tetek just after the hour mark.

Muskwe fired a half volley of his own from the edge of the box wide, before sending a free kick high of the mark from 20 yards as he searched for his third hat-trick of the season.

It took a good save from Tetek to deny Muskwe just moments later, before Hamza Choudhury clipped the top of Cheltenham’s net late on – an effort that proved to be the last major action of the clash.

The young Foxes will face either Blackburn Rovers or Southend United, who take on each other on Saturday 19 December, in the fourth round and contest their final U18 Premier League game of 2015 against Reading at Belvoir Drive on Saturday (12pm kick-off).
