Five-Star City Top Table In First Game At Riverside

Leicester City Women FC turned on the style for their first game in their new stadium with a 5-0 victory over Loughborough Students.

It was a win which also saw them move to the top of the FA Premier League Midlands Division One for the first time this season.
A slow start to the game saw Loughborough threaten to break the deadlock early on, but two fine saves from Scarlett Field kept the visitors at bay.
With the half-time whistle looming Leicester pushed for a lead to take into the break. Returning to Leicester on loan from Watford, Kim Farrow looked to have opened the scoring five minutes before the break when through on goal, but was denied by a smart save from the Loughborough keeper.
On the stroke of half time, Fiona Worts found space on the edge of the area and, after cutting inside the last defender, sent a curling effort that looked destined for the bottom corner. A smart diving save from the visiting 'keeper denied Worts the glory, but the ball was parried into the path of Sheryl Gayle, who tapped the ball home for the opener.
After the break, City enjoyed a dominant 45 minutes of passing football. It took just nine minutes for Worts to get on the score-sheet, latching onto a deflected shot from Gayle to power the ball into the far corner from the edge of the area.
Foxes defender Lauren Bartle was later unlucky not to score minutes later, after a long-range cross caught the goalkeeper off her line. However, the ball bounced out to safety via the upright.
Leicester asserted their dominance with a third goal just after the hour mark. Worts turned provider again as she found Gayle in the area, and Leicester’s new signing from Mansfield Town knocked the ball home for her third goal in two games.
Despite many chances over the final 30 minutes, it wasn’t until the 82nd minute that Leicester again found the net. Loughborough’s defence was broken again, when an in-swinging corner rattled around in the area before Molly Baxter got the final touch to send it into the back of the net.
The home side’s fifth and final goal came just seconds before the full-time whistle, as Rosie Axten pounced on a parried shot from Worts to curl it past the outstretched 'keeper.
