Leicester City Club Ambassador Alan ‘The Birch’ Birchenall and Filbert Fox paid a surprise visit to ‘Fly the Flag’ competition winner Dominic Manning on Friday afternoon.

Dominic, a teacher at Gartree High School, and pupils of the school were thrilled when the two familiar faces turned up to inform the City fan that he was the winner of the Club’s competition.

Earlier this month, we asked supporters to submit designs for our next giant crowd flag for the Barclays Premier League visit of Arsenal on 26 September.

Those entries were whittled down to a shortlist of three by the Fans Consultative Committee, and after thousands of votes from the Blue Army, it was Flag C (above) that was chosen to be unfurled at City’s home game against the Gunners later this month.

Dominic, 32, will also receive a bespoke matchday experience at King Power Stadium and will play a part in his flag's grand reveal while taking in some of King Power Stadium's outstanding matchday hospitality alongside three guests.

Dominic said: “It’s surreal to be the winner. I submitted my design and it was strange when I first heard that it had been selected as one of the three to be voted for by the public.

“I felt I might have a chance – everyone at Gartree High School was very supportive and voted for me, which I’m sure went a long way in helping me out.

“I thought I’d try and go for something different and try to reflect the past. The idea was to try and show the transition in the Club’s crest, because over the years it’s changed quite a bit.

“What hasn’t changed over the years is the support from the fans. The Club has been going for many years, so I wanted to try to show the different generations of our fans.

“I’m looking forward to seeing the flag at King Power Stadium, but I’m slightly dreading it as well as it’s in front of 32,000 people, but I’ll feel very proud.”

The Birch was suitably impressed with Dominic’s design, which encapsulates the Foxes’ rich history by featuring three of the Club’s crests as well as a fitting slogan that reads ‘Then, Now and Forever’.

Birch said: “The design is a true reflection of the Club. The first crest is the shield, and that was on the kit when I first joined Leicester in 1971.

“The running fox crest was from the Gary Lineker era – I’ll always remember that one on the green shirt with the yellow stripes, and of course it features the crest that Leicester City use today – it’s a great design.”

Keep your eyes peeled at King Power Stadium on 26 September for Dominic’s flag, which will be unfurled just minutes before kick-off.
