Only a select number of footballers have had the privilege of winning the Barclays Premier League, and few have done it in the manner that Leicester City forward Demarai Gray has.

The 19-year-old England youth international joined the Club in January, with the Foxes sitting second the Premier League table, two points behind Arsenal.

Fast forward five months, and the former Birmingham City man is now a Premier League champion, with a total of 12 appearances in all competitions to his name for Claudio Ranieri’s men.

Many expected the Foxes to falter under the pressure of leading the Premier League table since late January, but they simply flourished, and Gray explained why he wasn’t at all surprised.

Speaking to Foxes Player HD ahead of Saturday’s clash with Everton, Gray said: “It’s crazy – it’s every footballer’s dream to achieve something as big as this.

“It’s not kicked in that his happened yet. I didn’t expect it to happen. It’s one of those things that you expect to happen later in your career maybe.

“I’m just buzzing and enjoying the feeling. I can’t wait for the game at the weekend because that’s when you get the real feeling. I’m embracing the moment right now.

“No one really expected us to be up there for so long, but when I did join, within a month I saw why we were at the top and now what we’ve achieved. I’m not surprised we’ve won it because the team spirit and the quality that we’ve got on the pitch was more than enough to take us across the line.

“I’m just happy to have joined a club like this. We’ve got great fans and it’s a great city to be involved in. Credit goes to everyone throughout the whole Club, including the fans, who have been important. We all work for each other and to achieve what we have now is just a dream come true for everyone.”

The scenes outside King Power Stadium and on the streets of Leicester were those of joyous celebration on Monday evening, when the Foxes were crowned Premier League champions after second-placed Tottenham Hotspur failed to beat Chelsea.

For Gray, there was not better feeling than seeing the city of Leicester abuzz with the ecstatic Blue Army, who have been nothing short of magnificent, according to the forward.

“It’s a dream for the whole city,” Gray added. “We’ve created history. From a team that was right at the bottom last year, to Premier League champions – there’s been nothing like that.

“Since I joined, the fans have been unbelievable every game. They’ve been right behind us and we need that. Everyone should be buzzing right now and enjoy it.

“After this achievement, we’ve got Champions League football to look forward to next year. The feeling doesn’t stop.

“The season hasn’t finished and we’ve won the league already, so we’ve done it the best way. Hopefully we’ll get a win at the weekend and just lift the trophy in style.”
