Hamer On Another Level

Goalkeeper Ben Hamer says he is already feeling improvements in his game since joining Leicester City in the summer.
The 27-year-old is in line to face West Ham United in the Barclays Premier League on Saturday after Kasper Schmeichel picked up a metatarsal injury in training before the Manchester City fixture last week.

And for the former Charlton man, who has made three appearances in a City shirt so far, he credits training with the likes of Schmeichel, Adam Smith and first team coach Mike Stowell for improving his game.

Speaking to Foxes Player, Hamer said: “It’s a great group, they’ve all been top notch. I’ve come in to work with Kasper and Adam this season, and they’re all very professional.

“Kasper is a very professional lad, he works hard and has taken me up another level in training and that’s what you need – you need to take that sort of energy from each other and drive each other on.

“That’s been happening this season and hopefully it stands me in good stead for the games to come.”

After earning the praise of many, including manager Nigel Pearson for his display against Manchester City, Hamer has again echoed the positive rhetoric coming from the players and staff in the build up to the Christmas fixtures – starting with the Hammers on Saturday.

He said: “We’re full of positivity this week. It was a good performance against Manchester City, the result didn’t go our way but we’re positive for the weekend and everyone is raring to go down in London on Saturday.

“We’re just building up to that in training now. We’ve got one more session then we head down there looking to get a result at West Ham.

“It’s easy for us [to put the results out of our mind]. We know what we need to do to get out of the situation that we’re in and stay in this league. We’re all very positive in our mind-sets, there’s no negativity in the camp at all and we’re all raring to go.

“West Ham have done well. They’ve started the season well and their form is good, but it’s 11 vs. 11 and that’s the mind-set we’ll take in order to get a result.

“I’m raring to go, happy to be playing games of football and I’m happy to be in the team and given the opportunity.

“Hopefully I can put in some good performances and help the team. That’s what I want to do, so hopefully there’s more to come from me.

“It’s not about me, it’s about the team and everyone pulling in the same direction to get points up on the board and to help us climb the table. We’re all confident of doing that, we’ve got a good set of players in the camp and I think we all know that. We’ve got to be on our games now to drag ourselves up the table.”
