Huth: I’ve Got To Prove My Worth

After completing his deadline day move on loan from Stoke City, new Leicester City recruit Robert Huth is aiming to help his new team-mates secure Barclays Premier League survival.
The 30-year-old defender is with Nigel Pearson’s side until the end of the season, and with plenty of Premier League experience at both ends of the table, Huth is keen to lend a hand to the cause.

Huth will battle it our with Wes Morgan, Marcin Wasilewski, Liam Moore and Matthew Upson for the central defensive spots, and despite his vast experience at the level, he is keen to prove himself once again.

“There’s lots of competition,” Huth told Foxes Player. “I’m not expecting to walk into the team, I know I’ve got to prove my worth and hopefully I can do that.

“I’ve been around for a few years and played in Premier League. Sometimes it needs just a calm head on the pitch to maybe calm the players down and hopefully I can help.

“It’s not one ingredient that you need [the survive]. I think Leicester have pretty much got it sorted. They just need a bit of luck, clean sheets and a few goals would help obviously to make it a lot easier. We’re only three points off safety at the moment, so one win and we’re back in it.”

Huth’s arrival was the third of the January transfer window for Nigel Pearson’s side, after Andrej Kramaric and Mark Schwarzer, and the German defender admitted that he didn’t need much persuading to make the move.

“It came about fairly quickly really,” recalled Huth. “At the start of the week I spoke to the assistant from Stoke and he said Leicester were interested, so there wasn’t really much to think about.

“It’s very impressive [here]. The facilities are top notch and I can’t wait to get working. “Hopefully we can stay up. We all agree that that’s the main aim for the season, so hopefully we can do that.

“I think the whole bottom half has got a chance of staying up, or even going down so it’s a very tight race for staying in the league.

“It’s pretty much [the same] every year up until Christmas, then in January and February teams begin to separate, so we just need to stay in touch and make sure we win games.”
