Summer signing Gökhan Inler says he is ready and raring to go ahead of Leicester City’s Barclays Premier League clash with Aston Villa at King Power Stadium on Sunday.

The former Napoli midfielder is fighting to make his first Premier League start for the Foxes against Tim Sherwood’s outfit, having previously started against Bury in the Capital One Cup as well as coming on as a substitute against Tottenham Hotspur last month.

A Euro 2016 qualifier clash against England at Wembley Stadium on Tuesday provided the Switzerland captain with 90 minutes during the international break – a game that Inler believes has prepared him well for Sunday’s clash.

“I am ready, I need it,” Inler told Foxes Player HD after his nation’s fixture against England. “I played 90 minutes, which was great for me. Now I can concentrate for Leicester City. For Sunday against Aston Villa, I’m ready and I’ll give my best.

“We must work hard all day to get fit. I saw the other players and they’ve also played a lot of games but for me it’s important to play in high level games so I can be ready. The manager decides who plays, but I’m ready and I want to play.”

A goal from substitute Harry Kane and record-breaking strike from Wayne Rooney sealed the victory for Roy Hodgson’s men, but few could doubt Inler’s midfield presence.

His searching passes and ability to break up play will certainly be a positive addition to a Foxes squad that is already brimming with talent.

Inler added: “For us, it was a nice game, but in the end England were better than us, because they scored the goals. Compliments to them, because they’ve had a great qualification [campaign]. There were chances to make some goals, but England were a little bit better in front of the goal than us.

“We hope we can close the group in the games in October. For sure, I believe that the team is good. We must win these last two games and then we can go to France.”
