Leicester City striker Jamie Vardy wrote his name into the history books on Saturday night when he became the first man to score in 11 consecutive Premier League matches.
City’s in-form hitman struck in the 24th minute of the Foxes’ clash with Manchester United at King Power Stadium, surpassing the previous record of 10 straight games set by United legend Ruud Van Nistelrooy in 2003.
Bursting forward in trademark fashion after Kasper Schmeichel had caught a United corner, Vardy raced onto a superb through-ball from Christian Fuchs before slotting past United ‘keeper David De Gea to secure his place in the record books.
Vardy, who was playing non-league football with Fleetwood Town just three years ago, continues the hottest streak the Premier League has ever with his 14th goal of the campaign, which also makes him Leicester City’s highest ever goalscorer in a Premier League season.
Tony Cottee hit 13 in 33 appearances for the Foxes in the 1999/2000 campaign. Vardy has passed that figure in less than half the number of games – taking his total to 14 in 14 games against the Red Devils.
Bastian Schweinsteiger headed an equaliser for United in first-half stoppage time and a goalless second half meant both sides took a share of the spoils from an entertaining encounter.
Vardy will now have Jimmy Dunne's top-flight record of scoring in 12 consecutive games in his sights when the Foxes travel to Swansea City next Saturday.
