N’Golo Kanté hopes playing for Leicester City in the Barclays Premier League can help him become a more complete player.
The highly rated midfielder joined City from French club Caen on Monday, becoming the Foxes’ first new recruit since the appointment of Claudio Ranieri as manager.
Kanté, 24, was a man in demand this summer following an impressive spell in Ligue 1, where his combative qualities and midfield industry earned him a host of admirers.
But it was City that secured the signature of the tough-tackling Parisian, who felt wanted at King Power Stadium from the two parties’ earliest discussions.
“When I first spoke to Leicester, I could feel straight away that they really wanted me to come here and that was important for me,” Kanté told lcfc.com. “From the first conversation, I knew I wanted to sign.
“I always thought it would be good for me to play in the Premier League. I play in a more defensive midfield position, but I can play further forward too. I want to become an all-round midfield player.
“My objectives are the same as those of the club – to continue in the Premier League. I have come here to play football, but there is a very good squad here so I know I must work hard to play.”
Kanté has been monitoring Leicester’s progress since the Club’s promotion winning season in the Championship, when a familiar face joined the Foxes ranks.
“I first watched Leicester City when Riyad Mahrez moved here,” he said. “I had played against Riyad in France and when he joined Leicester there was a lot of interest.
“I saw some games last season and the team finished the season very strongly.”
Kanté will be hoping to make his City debut this weekend when the Foxes host Sunderland in their Barclays Premier League opener at King Power Stadium.
