Kramaric Speaks To Harrison Murray Schools League Youngsters

- A total of 55 city schools are competing for a chance to play at Leicester City Football Club

- The Leicester City star talks to youngsters about what it takes to be a professional and stresses the importance of enjoying the beautiful game 

- Kramaric also takes part in a number of warm-up drills to help the teams prepare for their fixtures at Judgemeadow College

Leicester City striker Andrej Kramarić stopped by Judgemeadow College this month to give some advice to a host of budding young footballers competing to play at King Power Stadium. 

In partnership with Harrison Murray Estate Agency, the LCFC Community Trust is running a Harrison Murray Schools League that includes teams from an incredible 55 city schools, who compete against each other in eight highly competitive leagues. 

Once the group stages are finished, matches from the quarter-finals onwards will take place at Leicester City Football Club – a dream come true for the young footballers of whom many are Leicester City supporters. 

With the LCFC Community Trust coaches watching on, the star performers from the tournament could very well end up on the Leicester City Academy’s Player Pathway, and to help them along that route, Andrej was only too happy to provide them with an insight into his own footballing journey. 

The youngsters listened intently as the Leicester City and Croatia star underlined the importance not only of hard work, but also of being able to enjoy playing football as children. 

“Of course I remember the first steps in my career,” Andrej reflected to Foxes Player HD. “There were a lot of kids that liked to play football and we played everywhere we could, whether it was a park, in the street or a real pitch. 

“Those were lucky days because when you are a kid you don’t think too much about other stuff. When I watch these kids it makes me happy because it brings back good memories for me. 

“Surely the most important thing is to enjoy it. They don’t need to think about football like we do. You have to tell children that football is a game to enjoy. They have great imaginations and if you kill that in the beginning it’s wrong. I hope there will be more competitions like this.” 

“It’s a fantastic opportunity to compete and some of the players last season were picked up to progress on the LCFC Player Pathway. 

“It started a couple of years ago and we’ve built it up to now, where we’ve got 55 city schools competing at four different venues. It’s been going really well and we’ve seen some really talented players. 

“Seeing role models and having them speak to the kids is really good. It really put a smile on the faces of the kids to see a player like Andrej coming down to give them advice.”
