Jamie Vardy marked his maiden England appearance at Wembley with an assist on Friday night, as Leicester City players continued to impress on international duty.
Vardy became the first City player to feature for England at Wembley since Emile Heskey in 2000 when he replaced Theo Walcott late on in the Three Lions’ penultimate Euro 2016 qualifier against Estonia.
Given just eight minutes to make an impression, the Foxes striker produced a typically vibrant cameo of his qualities. Anticipating a flick-on from Tottenham Hotspur’s Harry Kane, Vardy burst into the box from left flank before selflessly squaring for Manchester City’s Raheem Sterling to wrap up a 2-0 win.

The victory, set up by Walcott’s first-half opener, made it nine wins from nine for England in qualification Group E. Top spot in the group and automatic qualification for next summer’s tournament already secure, Roy Hodgson’s side have the chance to complete a perfect qualifying campaign on Monday when they head to Lithuania.
Elsewhere in Group E, Gökhan Inler was one of seven different goal scorers, as Switzerland hammered San Marino 7-0 to secure their place at next summer’s finals.
The Swiss appeared to be struggling to make their dominance count in St Gallen, leading 1-0 at the break against the bottom team in the group through defender Michael Lang.
But a penalty from Inler helped settle the nerves early in the second half and Switzerland ran out comfortable winners thanks to further goals from Admir Mehmedi, Johan Djourou, Pajtim Kasami, Breel Embolo and Eren Derdiyok.
Slovenia’s failure to beat Lithuania meant Switzerland secured automatic qualification with a game to spare. They travel to Tallinn to conclude their campaign against Estonia on Monday.
In Group G, Christian Fuchs captained Austria to victory over Montenegro in Podgorica.
Already qualified as Group G winners, Austria looked to be heading for their first defeat of the campaign when 2-1 down with nine minutes to go. But late goals from Marko Arnautovic and Marcel Sabitzer secured an eighth win from nine games for Fuchs and co.
Austria host Liechtenstein in Vienna in their final qualification match on Monday.
Riyad Mahrez and Algeria were in non-competitive action as they hosted Guinea in a friendly on Friday night.
Mahrez provided an assist for Islam Slimani to open the scoring in the second minute, but Guinea hit back twice before the break to secure a morale-boosting 2-1 victory.
Algeria are back in action next Tuesday in their latest friendly against Senegal.
At Under-21 level, striker Simonas Stankevicius captained Lithuania in their 3-0 European Under-21 Championship qualification defeat against Republic of Ireland in Waterford.
International attention turns to Wales and Croatia on Saturday, as Andy King, Tom Lawrence and Andrej Kramarić look book seats on the plane to France next summer.
