Last weekend, with the help from the LCFC Community Trust, local youngsters from the Premier League Kicks project and their counterparts from Everton came together for an educational friendly fixture.

The representatives from the Trust’s Community Cohesion initiative based in inner city areas such as St Matthews and Highfields, played out a nine-a-side match against Everton, after an educational workshop from Leicestershire Police on the dangers of anti-social behaviour during Halloween and Bonfire Night.

Mick King, the Community Trust’s Director was delighted with the event, saying:“Premier League Kicks is an outstanding example of utilising the power of football to integrate young people from diverse cultures and unite young people from two Premier League clubs.

“It is equally important to create the learning opportunities to adapt to societal expectation by engaging with the Leicestershire Constabulary Community Support Officers.”

Community Cohesion Manager, James Lowbridge added:“This is further proof that Premier League Kicks can provide a platform for young people to develop on and off the pitch. To have the support from officers from Leicestershire Police is a huge benefit to the project, as it can help break down barriers, build relationships, and help towards creating respectful and safer communities.”

Funded by the Premier League, Samworth Brothers and Leicestershire Police, the project has been delivered by the Club’s official charity for over a year now. It uses the universal power of sport and football to divert young people who are at risk of involvement in crime and anti-social behaviour towards more positive actions and encourages community cohesion.
