Leicester City To Compete In 2016 International Champions Cup

- Foxes to face Celtic in Glasgow, Paris Saint-Germain in Los Angeles and Barcelona in Stockholm 

- International Champions Cup will form part of City’s preparations for the 2016/17 Premier League season 

- Club Ambassador Alan Birchenall and Director of Football Jon Rudkin attend ICC launch in New York, where tournament matches around the world are revealed 

Leicester City will this summer compete alongside some of the biggest clubs in European football in the 2016 International Champions Cup. 

As part of their preparations for the 2016/17 Premier League campaign, the Foxes will face a series of exciting fixtures in the renowned competition, including the tournament’s opening match against Celtic in Glasgow on Saturday 23 July.

Claudio Ranieri’s men will then head for Los Angeles for a meeting with newly crowned French champions Paris Saint-Germain on Saturday 30 July, before concluding their ICC campaign with a trip to Stockholm to face FC Barcelona on Wednesday 3 August. 

Club Ambassador Alan Birchenall and Director of Football Jon Rudkin were in New York on Tuesday for the competition’s launch press conference, where all participating teams and fixtures were announced to the gathered international media. 

Leicester are one of five Premier League clubs involved in the 2016 International Champions Cup. Chelsea and Liverpool will join the Foxes in the transatlantic competition, while Manchester City and Tottenham Hotspur will be involved in standalone international showcases. 

The 10 teams participating in the main competition – which also include Real Madrid, Bayern Munich, Internazionale and AC Milan – have won a total of 190 domestic league titles, 246 domestic cup titles and 36 UEFA Champions League titles between them. 

Leicester City Chief Executive Susan Whelan said: "An invitation to participate in the International Champions Cup highlights the significant impression the Club is making on an international audience. We are delighted to be involved in this year's competition. It will form part of a carefully planned pre-season programme that has worked extremely well in recent years – including a week-long training camp in Austria and selected domestic friendly fixtures. 

"The ICC is a great opportunity to compete with some of Europe’s leading clubs and to further promote the Club, and the city of Leicester, around the world.” 

The International Champions Cup has hosted some of the most iconic matches in the world, including the largest attended soccer match in U.S. history, when 109,318 fans saw Real Madrid and Manchester United play at the “Big House” at the University of Michigan. 

In its four-year history, Real Madrid, Manchester United and Paris Saint-Germain have all won instalments of the tournament.
