Leicester City To Take On Oxford United

- The fixture will take place on Tuesday 19 July (KO 7.45pm) at the Kassam Stadium 

- It will be Leicester City’s first fixture at the stadium 

- Oxford United were promoted to League 1 at the end of the 2015/16 season 

Premier League champions Leicester City will travel to Oxford United on Tuesday 19 July (KO 7.45pm) as part of the team’s pre-season preparations for the 2016/17 campaign. 

The first team squad warm up for their title defence at Kassam Stadium against the U’s in what will be Leicester City’s first visit to the stadium, which opened in 2001. 

The two sides last met in 1994 at Oxford’s former home, the Manor Ground. The second tier meeting ended 2-2, with Matt Elliott on the scoresheet for Oxford, three years before his move to the Foxes. 

While Claudio Ranieri’s Leicester City will be preparing for a defence of their Premier League title, the U’s will be gearing up for life in League 1, having secured promotion from League 2 with an impressive second placed finish. 

It will be a first appearance in the third tier of English football for Michael Appleton’s men since the 2000/01 season, while the match will add to an exciting pre-season schedule for the Foxes. 

As well as the game against Oxford, the Foxes also face Barcelona, Paris Saint-Germain and Celtic as part of the prestigious International Champions Cup competition.
