Loans Help Pearson Judge Development

Manager Nigel Pearson believes the experience Leicester City’s young loan stars will gain helps him to judge the development of his upcoming players.

Over the past two days, Callum Elder and Adam Smith have both joined Mansfield Town, Jack Barmby has gone to Rotherham United and Tom Hopper has made the switch to Scunthorpe United, all on one-month loan deals.
They join five other youngsters already on out on loan. Jacob Blyth is impressing for Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink’s Burton Albion, Michael Cain is pulling the strings in midfield at Walsall and Adam Dawson, Marcel Barrington and Simonas Stankevicius are all at Nuneaton Town.
“We have decided to try and place a few of our Development Squad out on loan,” said the City boss. “It is precisely that – the Development Squad.
“It is about trying to judge how they develop individually and I think throughout the season for some of those players it is important to get some first team football.
“We have Cain out, James Pearson has been out, Jacob Blyth is out, Callum Elder has gone to Mansfield. We have a number of players who we feel it is in their interest to experience some league football.”
The young Foxes could come up against each other this weekend as Cain’s Saddlers host Hopper’s Scunthorpe in League 1 and Blyth’s Burton entertain Smith and Elder’s Mansfield in League 2.
