Mahrez: Keep Going

Riyad Mahrez has urged Leicester City to kick on after they enjoyed an afternoon to savour against Barclays Premier League relegation rivals Hull City on Sunday.
The Algerian international’s goal earned the Foxes a first win in 14 matches to move them within three points of safety, but Mahrez’s brilliant first half strike was underpinned by a solid and committed defensive display from the team.

They rode the luck that had recently deserted them at times, but ground out a vital victory that had all the feelings of a turning point going into a New Year’s Day clash with Liverpool at Anfield.

“It feels very good,” a delighted Mahrez told Foxes Player. “We have lost too many points this season, so it’s a very good win. We have to keep going in this way and the next game – Liverpool away – it’s a difficult game. We have to keep going, so we will see.

“It was difficult, because Hull were 17th in the table and we were last. They were strong and difficult, but we were good in defence and we are happy now.

“We knew the Premier League would be difficult. We knew we’d lose some games, but we have to stay focused for the team and the fans. So many fans came to support us; they’re so good for the team and the Club. We need to keep going now.”

On his match winning goal, Mahrez recalled: “I knew the defender didn’t want me to go inside, but I went inside and after I saw the way to goal I hit a very good shot but what’s important is the team. We were very good at defending and it’s three points for us, so we are very happy."
