Leicester City winger Riyad Mahrez is among 11 Barclays Premier League players to be shortlisted for the African Footballer of the Year Award by the Condeferation Africaine De Football.

The Algeria international has been in fine form so far this season, having scored five goals so far, and has joined Premier League stars such as Manchester City’s Yaya Toure and Swansea’s Andre Ayew.

The 37-man list will be whittled down to just ten next month, before further reductions until the three finalists go head-to-head.

Manchester City midfielder Toure is bidding for a fifth award, having won the African Footballer of the Year title for the last four consecutive years.

The 11 Premier League players on the shortlist are: Riyad Mahrez (Leicester City), Yaya Toure (Manchester City), Andre Ayew (Swansea), Rudy Gestede (Aston Villa), Christian Atsu (Bournemouth), Dieumerci Mbokani (Norwich), Mame Diouf (Stoke), Max Gradel (Bournemouth), Sadio Mane (Southampton), Victor Wanyama (Southampton) and Yannick Bolasie (Crystal Palace).
