Riyad Mahrez says it’s the support of the Leicester City fans that can keep the Foxes flying in their King Power Stadium clash with Barclays Premier League champions Chelsea on Monday.

Mahrez scored his first professional hat-trick in last weekend’s 3-0 victory over Swansea City to register his 10th league goal of the season and he thinks the fans both home and away are a major factor in the team’s success.

The midfielder joined the Foxes from Le Havre in 2014 before quickly establishing himself as a firm fan favourite, and it's those fans that he's keen to make proud with another positive result on Monday.

“I am pleased to play in the stadium [because] the fans are always behind us,” Mahrez told The Friday Interview on Foxes Player HD. “They never give up and that’s very good for us. I love to play in this stadium. Maybe that’s why we’re first as well because the fans are always behind us.

“[When we play] away it’s always full so they have to keep going like this because we need them and we will make them proud of us.”

City host the champions Chelsea on Monday evening and Jose Mourinho, who replaced Leicester boss Claudio Ranieri at the South London club in 2004, will be looking for his team to put behind them a tough start that has seen them fall 17 points behind the Foxes.

He continued: “I think [the pressure] is for them because we don’t have pressure. It’s good to be first. No one said at the beginning of the season Leicester are going to be first in December. Never.

“We’re just training, laughing, joking and when it’s the game, work hard, work for each other and we will see what we can do.

“We just focus on our team, obviously Chelsea are a big club we just play like we always do and see what we can do.”
