Match Preview: Rotherham United vs. Leicester City

Read a match preview for the pre-season friendly fixture between Rotherham United and Leicester City at the New York Stadium on Wednesday 29 July, 2015 (7.45pm kick-off).

Leicester City continue their pre-season schedule with a trip to Rotherham United’s New York Stadium on Wednesday.

The fixture is the second of three for the Foxes this week, having already beaten League 1 outfit Burton Albion 2-1 on Tuesday.

A second-half brace from striker Jamie Vardy secured the win for Claudio Ranieri’s men as every member of the starting XI on the night completed 90 minutes at the Pirelli Stadium.

Ranieri is likely to field a fresh side for the Rotherham clash as he continues to ready his squad for their 2015/16 Barclays Premier League opener against Sunderland on Saturday 8 August.

Rotherham United benefited from the loan spells of Leicester City duo Tom Lawrence and Jack Barmby last campaign, with both enjoying minutes at the Millers.

Rotherham managed to retain their Championship status with a game to spare last term following a challenging season in England’s second tier.

The Foxes met Steve Evans’ men in their pre-season schedule last year, with a double from Leonardo Ulloa and a strike from Danny Drinkwater earning a 3-1 away win.

Rotherham have lost just one of their first six games this pre-season, recording wins over Parkgate, Stocksbridge Park Steels, Greenock Morton and Dundee.

Leicester City manager Claudio Ranieri told Foxes Player HD after the win over Burton: “We made some good action but also we conceded some good chances, which isn’t good for us.

“I was sad to concede a goal but that is football. We respect our opponent but we must concentrate until the end of the match.

“I told the players that we had the chances to score more goals. The opponent had time to control the ball, run with the ball and shoot at goal. That’s too many seconds. We had to close him very quickly.

“I’m very impressed because the tempo is very high. We played 90 minutes [against Burton], which is important and we must now focus for Sunderland.”
