Morgan Concludes Busy International Break For LCFC Stars

Leicester City skipper Wes Morgan rounded off a positive international break for the Club as he helped his Jamaica side to a 1-0 victory over Haiti in Port-au-Prince.
- A total of 13 Leicester City players represented their nations over the international break 

- Riyad Mahrez scored for Algeria in their 7-0 win over Tanzania 

- Shinji Okazaki found the back of the net in Japan’s 2-0 victory over Cambodia 

- Tom Lawrence made his senior debut for Wales against the Netherlands 

- Christian Fuchs and Gökhan Inler came up against each other as Austria faced Switzerland 

- Wes Morgan rounded off City’s international involvement after helping Jamaica beat Haiti on Wednesday 

Leicester City skipper Wes Morgan rounded off a positive international break for the Club as he helped his Jamaica side to a 1-0 victory over Haiti in Port-au-Prince. 

A second-half strike from Birmingham City forward Clayton Donaldson saw Jamaica earn their first win in CONCACAF 2018 World Cup qualifying Group B. The clash saw Morgan take to the field for the second time in four days following the defender’s involvement against Panama on Saturday. 

In-form winger Riyad Mahrez played twice for Algeria in their 2018 World Cup qualifying double-header against Tanzania. 

Mahrez was involved in the build-up to both of the Desert Foxes’ goals in the first leg on Saturday. A 2-2 draw saw Algeria needing a win in the second leg and Mahrez and his nation delivered. A 7-0 victory on Tuesday, in which Mahrez found the back of the net, saw Algeria advance to the main group stage of qualification, which takes place in 2016. 

Academy graduate Jeffrey Schlupp sat out Ghana’s first leg 0-0 2018 World Cup qualifying draw with Comoros on Friday, but played a role in the second leg on Tuesday. 

Schlupp came on as a first-half substitute in the Black Stars’ 2-0 win, which saw them advance to the Third Round Group Stages. 

Also in 2018 World Cup qualifying action was striker Shinji Okazaki, who netted in Japan’s 2-0 victory over Cambodia on Tuesday. 

Okazaki was also an unused substitute in his nation’s 3-0 win in Singapore on Friday. Japan now sit top of their qualifying group with five wins and a draw from their six fixtures. 


Kasper Schmeichel appeared for Denmark on Saturday and Tuesday in their two-legged Euro 2016 play-off against Sweden. 

Schmeichel and his men were beaten 2-1 in the first leg before recovering from two goals down to draw 2-2 in Copenhagen in the second leg. That meant the Danes were edged out of the competition 4-3 on aggregate. 

Having already helped their nations qualify for Euro 2016, City duo Christian Fuchs and Gökhan Inler came face-to-face in an international friendly in Austria on Tuesday. 

Inler, who on Friday skippered Switzerland in their friendly clash with Slovakia, saw his nation run out 2-1 winners against Austria thanks to a double from Haris Seferović. 

Another highlight of the international break was young Leicester City forward Tom Lawrence’s full debut for Wales on Friday evening in Cardiff. 

Alongside Academy graduate Andy King, Lawrence played 90 minutes for Chris Coleman’s men, who were eventually beaten 3-2 by the Netherlands. 

Striker Andrej Kramarić took to the field as a late substitute in Croatia’s 3-1 friendly victory over Russia on Tuesday. 

After an early set back, goals from Nikola Kalinić, Marcelo Brozović and Mario Mandžukić secured the win from Kramarić’s nation. 

Harry Panayiotou rounded off City’s senior involvement on the international stage after playing twice for St. Kitts and Nevis. 

Panayiotou helped his nation beat Andorra 1-0 in an international friendly on Friday, before playing 90 minutes for St. Kitts and Nevis in their 3-0 defeat to Estonia on Tuesday. 

Young defender Ben Chilwell made another appearance for England Under-20s on Wednesday against France, who eventually won 4-3 in a thrilling clash. 

Chilwell then linked up with England’s Under-21s side, gaining some valuable experience while on duty with the young Lions.

Development Squad striker Simonas Stankevicius was on target for Lithuania Under-21s in their 3-1 Euro 2017 qualifying win over the Republic of Ireland on Friday. 

Stankevicius again represented his nation on Tuesday, but couldn’t prevent a 2-0 away defeat to Italy’s Under-21s.
