Morgan Sees Foxes Progress

- The Foxes lost 2-1 to Arsenal at Emirates Stadium as Danny Welbeck scored a last-gasp winner 

- Jamie Vardy had given Leicester a deserved lead from the penalty spot before Danny Simpson was sent off for a second booking 

- Morgan praises his team’s desire to fight for each other 

Wes Morgan says the disappointment Leicester City are feeling after a late Barclays Premier League defeat to Arsenal is an indication of just how far they have come. 

From relegation favourites at the beginning of the season, the Foxes have imposed themselves on the league to such an extent that they now sit two points clear at the summit – . 

It was a loss that left a bitter taste for the Foxes, who had been at their brilliant best to take a deserved 1-0 lead into the break thanks to Jamie Vardy’s penalty. 

However after a Danny Simpson dismissal, Arsenal substitutes Theo Walcott and Danny Welbeck scored to give the Gunners victory – the winner coming with the final kick of the game. 

But having picked up six points from three tough games against Liverpool, Manchester City and Arsenal, the skipper knows that the giant strides the team have taken over the season are clear for all to see. 

Speaking after the final whistle at Arsenal, Morgan told Foxes Player HD: “We battled well. It’s always going to be a tough, tough game and it wasn’t any easier going down to 10 men against the likes of Arsenal. It’s tough enough when it’s 11 vs.11. 

“It’s a disappointing result because we obviously had the lead and felt we had a good chance of winning the game. To concede with the last kick of the game like that and to come away with nothing is hard to take. 

“To come to a place like this and to battle away and having a chance to come away with three points shows how far we’ve come as a team and as a squad. To see how disappointed we are to come away with nothing shows we’ve come a long way as a team.” 

The Foxes looked well in control of the game after 45 minutes, having taken the lead and enjoyed by far the better of the chances, but Simpson’s dismissal early in the second half seemed to reenergise the hosts. 

Morgan added: “It (the red card) was probably the turning point I think. It gave Arsenal the impetus to go all out attack and get the goals they were looking for. It goes without saying that it’s easier to play 11 against 11 than 10 against 11. 

“We’re the type of team to fight for each other, have each other’s backs and do what’s necessary to try to help each other out. Today it wasn’t enough but we’ll dust ourselves off and bounce back against Norwich in our next game. 

“We’ll have a little rest and take our minds off the game. It’s been a tough last three games so we’ll have some time off from football, and come back with a fresh mind raring to go., We’ll be back on it.”
