Nugent: Massive Survival Chance

Striker David Nugent believes Leicester City have a ‘massive chance’ of retaining their Barclays Premier League status following Saturday’s win at West Bromwich Albion.

The Foxes moved to within three points of safety after the 3-2 victory at The Hawthorns secured back-to-back wins for the first time since January.
Tony Pulis’ men twice took the lead through Darren Fletcher and Craig Gardner, either side of Nugent’s equaliser.
But in an outstanding second half performance, City levelled with 10 minutes to go through defender Robert Huth, before striker Jamie Vardy netted an injury-time winner.
“I’m obviously elated,” Nugent told Foxes Player. “There were some great celebrations at the end of the game. We know it’s a long way to go. We’ve still got seven games left, but two back-to-back wins have put us in with a massive chance.
“We were slow in the first half. We didn’t get going and we were deservedly 2-1 down at the break. But at 2-1, you’re still in the game. We changed the formation in the second half, and I don’t think West Brom knew what hit them.
“Jeff [Schlupp] and Marc [Albrighton] had a lot of space out wide and defenders don’t like it when they run at them. They were getting crosses in the box, and in the end, we fully deserved the three points with the performance.”
While Nugent felt it was a slow start to the fixture for his side, the striker credited the quick-thinking of Argentine midfielder Esteban Cambiasso – who won Man of the Match for his performance against West Ham United in the previous game – for City’s first goal.
“We spoke about it in training the other day. We know Esteban’s quick with his free kicks. He’s taken a quick one, Leo [Ulloa] has flicked it on and I’ve managed to get in front of Joleon Lescott to side-foot it into the net.
“For the second goal, I’ve managed to get it back into the box from the back stick. Wasyl’s (Marcin Wasilewski) headed it back across and Robert Huth’s got on the end of it.
“At the end, Vardy’s done well to do it all by himself. He’s robbed the ball of McAuley and ran at Lescott. Vards is good with both feet, so he can go either way. It was an unbelievable finish. He put it right in the corner.”
