Peake Credits Energy And Desire

Leicester City Under-18s manager Trevor Peake applauded the commitment of his side following their FA Youth Cup exit at the hands of Manchester City.

The young Foxes were beaten 2-1 at King Power Stadium in the Semi-Final Second Leg on Wednesday evening, having already lost 3-0 in the first leg last month.
The result brought to an end to a superb run in the competition, which saw Peake’s outfit become only the second ever side in the Club’s history to make it to the last four.
Reflecting on the loss, Peake told Foxes Player: “We did the best we could. We were full of energy and desire and we caused them some problems when we went 1-0 up. They had a bit of a shaky period after that.
“The comeback looked on for a while, but the clock ticked on. When we got towards the end of the match, we tried to be more offensive and paid the ultimate price.
“We thought we’d give it a go in the last few minutes and got caught out. It makes it look worse than it was actually out there.”
The hosts took the lead on the night thanks to England Under-17s international Layton Ndukwu’s 69th-minute penalty.
But as City pushed forward in search of a second and third goal that would have taken the tie to extra-time, the visitors were ruthless on the counter attack and scored twice in injury time.
First, Isaac Buckley Ricketts converted Angelino’s low cross from close range, before the lively Brandon Barker dispatched a penalty to seal the victory for the Citizens.
“Football can be very cruel at times and the game against Man City was an example of that,” Peake added. “I was really pleased with the effort. I don’t think they could have put anymore into it.
“A bit of more quality on a couple of occasions might have helped us in that quest, but it was a big question that we were trying to answer.
“It was very open. We tried to press them and they were doing the same to us, so chances were created in those areas.
“They’ve got some very good players that we appreciate, but we tried to stick to our task, and gave them a few problems as well, which we didn’t seem to do at their place in the first leg.”
