Pearson: Enjoy The Moment, But We Move On

Nigel Pearson paid tribute to his squad’s mentality after they recovered from losing David Nugent in the warm-up to secure a stunning 2-0 Barclays Premier League win over Swansea City.
The in-form City striker was down to start up front alongside Jamie Vardy and Andrej Kramaric, but in the pre-match warm-up was forced to withdraw with a tight calf.

The manager then turned to this season’s top scorer, Leo Ulloa, to fill Nugent’s gap, and within 15 minutes he had hammered home the opening strike of the match to hand the Foxes a 1-0 lead.

Andy King then sealed the points with a minute to go to round off a fine display from City and move them level with 17th placed Hull City in the table.

“That’s another setback that the players had to deal with,” said Pearson, reflecting on the injury to Nugent before the match. “It’s never easy. We’ve done our work on the training field and the side was named on Friday, so for Nuge to pull out literally with half an hour to go, it was something that the players dealt with very well.

“It was a quick change, Leo came in and there he goes, he went and scored a goal. The players dealt with it well, and that’s the important thing.

“You can look at these things in two ways. You can either moan about the setbacks that you have or you can just say okay, that’s that and we’ll use what we’ve got. We did that, the players responded well and coped with the situation exceptionally calmly. That is very important for us.”

The manager also described the six remaining games as a ‘mini-season’, as the Foxes look to capitalise on their momentum and haul themselves out of the drop zone – starting at Burnley on Saturday.

“That’s three on the trot,” said Pearson. “Which is a massive thing to do at this level, so its now a case of writing that one off and there are six games left, four at home, and the mini-season starts next week.

“The two away games we’ve got left are going to be very important, because they are both against sides that we can directly influence in the relegation battle. So that’s where we’re at really. Enjoy the moment, but we move on.”
