Pearson: Keep Working

The message from Nigel Pearson was to remain positive after his Leicester City side fell to a frustrating 2-1 Barclays Premier League defeat away to Aston Villa on Sunday afternoon.
Despite taking the lead through Leo Ulloa in the first half, the Foxes went behind to goals from Ciaran Clark and Alan Hutton, before going down to 10 men for the second game in a row – Paul Konchesky the man to go.

Pearson’s side created plenty throughout the game and on another day could have come away with all three points, and the manager underlined the importance of maintaining belief going into next week’s game.

He told Foxes Player: “What I can’t do, and what the players and staff can’t do, is allow negativity to come into our ranks. The foundation is still there in terms of the work ethic. The longer you go without wins, the belief can be questioned, but we go back to work.

“They are all hard to take at the moment because things just aren’t going our way. It’s hard when you’ve got 11 men, but in the last two games, going down to 10 men in the second half makes it increasingly difficult to get that elusive win.

“Our defending for both goals today needs to be better. Having gone ahead and looking dangerous, to concede that from a set play is frustrating. For the second goal it’s awareness. It’s cost us and that’s something that remains a frustration for myself, the fans and players because they know that they’re better.”

Ulloa was withdrawn at half-time for the Foxes, and the manager revealed: “In the challenge prior to half time he got a heavy knock with a follow through and he didn’t fully recover from that, so we felt it was still important to still have the work rate out there with Nugent coming on for him.”
