Pearson Reflects On Schmeichel Selection
The Danish international shot-stopper played his first game for the Foxes since December in the 4-3 Barclays Premier League defeat at White Hart Lane.
Since then, Mark Schwarzer and Ben Hamer have both successfully safeguarded the City net on a number of occasions, meaning Pearson had three fit, capable goalkeepers at his disposal at the weekend.
“It was a difficult decision to leave Mark Schwarzer out to be honest, because I think he’s been very, very good,” Pearson told Foxes Player.
“It’s not a case of Kasper’s back in and he’s an automatic choice, that’s not the case. But when you’re playing a counter-attacking style with pace like we did against Spurs, you need that extra distance with the distribution that Kasper has.
“So that was the thinking behind that, but he will have the same rules applied to him in terms of selection.
“I’ll always pick the team that I think is right for any given date. Nobody has a divine right to be out there, but I don’t think his performance deserved to concede four goals.”
Pearson also outlined the importance of the Blue Army during City’s tough run of fixtures and says that all of his players remain committed to securing the Club’s top-flight status.
The City boss added: “It’s important that the fans stay behind us, of course it is, and they will if they see that kind of commitment. We’ve certainly got to start winning games and today’s (Saturday) situations don’t help.”
